December Issue

Last issue of the year folks and we have an interview with the man himself Chip Z'nuff to end it all!      Keep your hands inside the car at all times...

A Closer look at Chip Z'nuff:

1) Musical background:

First musical instrument you played?    Actually my first instrument would have been my voice. I started singing first before anything.

At what age?    Around the age of 13.

Who taught you? OR Did you learn on your own?    I learned to sing by listening to all my dad's records. Rare Earth, Vanilla Fudge, Captain Beyond, Three Dog Night, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.

2) List all instruments you play/have played.    Besides the bass I play guitar, drums, percussion and I dabble in keyboards but I don't play as many instruments as Donnie does.

3) Your hidden/unknown/surprise "talent" (everyone has one!)   I can throw a baseball! I'm a good arm wrestler and I'm good at math as well.

4) First song you remember hearing.    Uh... I 'd have to say "Sweet Hitchhiker" by CCR.

5) Your *guilty pleasure*:    Hanging on the beach in Captiva, which is an island off the coast of Florida.

6) Your biggest pet peeve.    Sobriety. I don't mind when people have a few drinks here and there but you have to be able to control it.

7) Your proudest moment.    The birth of my daughter Tara

8) Your best childhood memory.    I loved playing baseball and other sports with my family.

9) Your worst childhood memory.    I don't really have any. Let's just keep that one tucked away.

10) Name something you'd like to learn to do.    I would like to speak every language that there is!

11) Your biggest 'real' fear.    That would have to be the end of the run...

12) First professional recording experience: when? w/whom? Play or sing or both?    My first band, which was called Degeneration in 1979. We recorded an album that was never released.

13) Who is the one person that you would like to meet, that you have not yet met?   I've been blessed to meet lots of cats touring over the years but I would have to say McCartney and Bowie as well. Freddie Mercury if he was alive first off and Lennon of course.

14) Who is/was your greatest influence in life?    My dad!

15) Is there any specific thing that you like to do to get into a creative mindset?    Eat well! It has to come naturally. I bring a guitar with me in the studio and just play.

16) What is a typical day for you?    It's a drag. If I'm on the road its interviews, radio, sound checks, different cities and hotels. The music is what I love to do. If I'm off the road it's up at 8:30 every morning and I'm in my office on the phones all day.

17) Have you ever regretted following your dream?    Of course not! No one that follows their dream should regret it.

18) If you weren't a singer/writer, what else would you be interested in doing?   I'd probably be an athlete because I like the to compete and I've played football, hockey and baseball when I was in school.

19) Any projects on the side you are doing?   I produced a song for my wife Michelle that is the number one requested song right now on the station that does Breakfast with the Beatles. I have 9 Fifty on my label and Radio Earth as well as some other bands that will have upcoming releases soon. The site address is: www.stoneyrecords.com .

20) Any one story from the Glam Slam Tour you'd like to share?    We arrived a day early at Jones Beach on Long Island and Tom Petty was playing and we got to meet him. He was really a cool cat and had the best pot in the world!

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview Chip.    No problem my friend!

This interview was conducted by me and the questions for the interview were provided by my co-editor Traci (the big gun) and the always-effervescent Sue Rikil.

The band wishes to apologize for the cancellations of their 2 shows in Cleveland Ohio. Donnie and Ricky had every intention of flying from California to Ohio for those shows but Donnie had a serious tooth problem to be dealt with that prevented him from flying. They originally stayed behind after the shows out west to do work on a side project they have been working on for quite some time in pieces.

Also Chip’s wife Michelle had a song produced by the Chipster himself that is currently the most requested song on the Breakfast w/ the Beatles show in Chicago. Word has it that Ms. Z’nuff has quite a set of pipes on her too!

Kudos to Johnny Monaco for having surgery and being able to perform the same day that the band played their show at The Shack in Illinois!

In December the band will be doing two benefit shows. One in upstate New York at The Strand Theatre with “Cain” opening for them in Watertown which is up close to the Canadian border and another disaster relief show in New York City at Roseland for good causes. The following day they will be doing a radio show for WDHA and Rat Radio in New Jersey at night for those who can tune in. A show for that night is a big “IF” right now but everyone is working on trying to get a show near by.

That’s it for now folks! Everyone have a nice December and holiday season and we'll see you next year!
