February Issue 2002

Hi one and all!

In this months issue I received an email from a musician who has had the privilege of touring with the Stones, Metallica and Kiss and his email is entitled “Love” and I liked it enough to start off the issue with it. It pertains to the band and Donnie in particular. Also our own Michael Bendixen who hails from Denmark translated a show review from German to English from the German magazine “Breakout”. Is he talented or what! Plus some of the pictures from the magazine are up on the site under his name including pictures from Amanda Mayfield as well from The Shack and a show in Saint Louis. Go to “fan photos” to view them. I thought I’d start off the issue with the email from James Homan for everyone and take it from there…“LOVE”

The things our parents and grandparents pass on to us are not always as obvious as they may seem. It usually takes an awaking in an individual, when that little light comes on in your head and you realize just what they have really given you. It could be your work ethic, musical ability, sense of humor; it's different for everyone. But what ever it maybe, it’s a gift to recognize it and have a relationship that's open and able to express those heart felt feelings. When my grandmother became sick I left the tour and I was home and slept outside her bedroom door in case she was too weak to call for me in the night. That went on for 9 months. I miss her dearly and I'm glad I could tell her where my capacity of love came from… HER!

Now I have a daughter of my own, Season. She's 18 months old. She will never get the chance to meet my grandmother, but she will know her. She'll know her by the love and nurturing that was shown me, and that love and bond is the greatest gift I can give her. It sounds as if you've given your son all that and more.

I've been very fortunate in my professional career. I've toured with the Rolling Stones, Metallica and Kiss. All the things I dreamed of as a teenager! Hopefully one day I'll add (Enuff-Znuff) to that list. Their lyrics speak to me in a very personal way. I see them whenever I can or when we cross paths in the world but I've yet to even say a word to Donnie. I have an easier time talking to Mick Jagger or Keith Richards then getting up the courage to just say "Hi" to him. I’m that much in awe of his ability and showmanship!

Now I've got the greatest gig in the world and the most important one, that of "Da Da”. I have a 10-disk player in my car and it's all filled with your son's music. I don't know what I'll do when the next one comes out and I have to
make a choice.

Thanks for sharing yourself with the world through your son…

Best always, Jim Homan

Z ROCK 2001 GERMANY - "Masters of Melodic Hard rock"

8 September 2001, Mannheim, Capitol

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the German Rock magazine "Breakout" issue 07/2001.

Translated from German into English by Mike Bendixen.

The four piece band Enuff Z´nuff from Chicago has mainly been an Underground act for a lot of years. So far their music has not reached the huge masses, while second class bands has gone platinum.

The reason for this: Despite ten great albums the foursome has not had a single hit, which they could base a follow up on and further on Enuff Z´nuff has never played one single time in Germany. Tonight's show at Capitol was the premiere for Donnie Vie and the gang.

Mix some Glam with some Hard Rock and add a good portion of Beatles harmonies and then you have the "remarks" of Enuff Z´nuff's music. This was confirmed when the band started their set with a short instrumental-intro followed by a very successful cover version of the Fab Four classic "Revolution". This Glam-version of one of the strongest Beatles songs could give Enuff Z´nuff the needed hit. Under all circumstances the band really deserves that.  Since their own songs seems to fail to give them a hit….

Routinely the band rocked the audience through selections from their last albums; obviously with focus on songs from the recent album "10".  It is difficult to point out single songs; but songs like "Fly Away", "Fly High Michelle" or "New Thing" is all at a relative high level. When hearing the studio-versions you get excellent arrangements while on stage the Party-element is the main factor. Singer Donnie Vie and the stage presence of bandleader Chip Z´nuff visualize this.

However the drum sound was a bit annoying because it was sounded like drummer Ricky Parent was banging on some empty cans. The bad sound was progressive during the set and it ruined the entertainment from the stage a bit.  Unfortunately Ricky Parent smashed his snare by the first song and the "Drum technician" did not succeed in repairing the snare. To conclude the show was successful even though the band did not get the perfect conditions.

Just some tidbits of information for you all…

I case you are all wondering about the band I spoke to Chip on the phone recently. There is NO truth to any rumors of the band breaking up. They are simply taking a break and doing some side and solo projects and there WILL be a new CD in the near future to be released. No title is etched in stone as of yet but I can tell you the songs are KILLER! Donnie told me he thinks it’s some of their strongest material to date! The band also just finished doing the song “Yankee Rose” for a Steve Vai/ Joe Satriani tribute disc titled “Lords Of Karma” which is also Joe Satraini song from “Surfing With The Alien”. It will be out as of the 29th of January on: www.versaillesrecords.com. The disc will include Jake E. Lee, Brad Gillis, Bruce Kulick, Jimmy Crespo, George Lynch, Dave Ragsdale, Neil Zaza, Jason McMaster, Richard Kendrick, Toni Janflone Jr., Cory Craven and Ton(y) Harnell of TNT. Odd that all seem to be guitar players except for Tony Harnell? I’m wondering if it might be a misprint and should be Ronni Le Tekro who is TNT’s guitarist. In any case I can’t wait to have the disc in my grubby little hands! How about you Rob D.!?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Donnie has been in LA these days and had the chance to jam with some popular musicians in some of the venues there and jammed “New Thing” to wild applause, which is very cool! Also he has been doing acoustic sets of his solo material in clubs along with some EZN rarities. He is also finishing up his parts for the 11th release by the band to be released most likely in Japan first as usual.

John is working on some new material that I’ve had the chance to hear and it is really sounding good! If you don’t have his 9-song disc that’s available on Stoney Records pick it up! Chip as always is staying committed to Enuff Z’nuff and overseeing the final mixes for the bands next release and doing interviews.

For anyone that would like to see a special feature article on Enuff Z’nuff go to: http://www.cosmik.com/, which is an online publication.

Anyone who missed seeing the greeting card that was given to Donnie for his grandfather can click on the link to view it for the rest of this month. By the way, Sue said Donnie LOVED it and thanks everyone for their concern.

Congrats to Donnie and Joni (Vie) for tying the knot and making an honest and happy man out of Donnie!

The Express staff: Chris Capozza, Mike “I’m on holiday” Bendixen and welcome Judy Garelli (formerly Straka) back to the fold everyone who used to run the fan club and is back once again. Welcome back Squeeds! Sorry to see you leave Traci. Good luck in all of your future endeavors!
